Shannon led the Reading Intervention team and K-5 classroom teachers to implement the “walk to read” model during the 2022-2023 School year by Delivering training in the SIPPS Curriculum, devising effective scheduling solutions, and providing ongoing support throughout the process.
Before Walk to Read, Reading interventionists were able to serve About 100 students. By increasing the number of educators teaching intervention groups, over 235 students receive support from either a Classroom Teacher or Reading Interventionist.
The Walk to Read model ensured that 100% of students who needed support in foundational phonics skills were served in a reading intervention group. Additionally, 100% of current 5th grade students in general education are on track to complete the SIPPS curriculum by the end of the year.

Teacher Testimonials
Alyssa Lytle,
2nd Grade Teacher
I love students and I love words. Shannon’s mentorship helped me harness both of these to empower student reading growth. She communicated the importance our daily phonics practice and trained me in its implementation. She measured and communicated the impact of my work. Her efforts helped me transform something students can find dull and repetitive into a vibrant, engaging experience in the complexity and cool that is the English language.
Molly Naughton,
4th Grade Teacher
Shannon’s continuous efforts and the implementation of effective teaching models like Walk to Read make a significant difference in our students’ literacy skills. They have not only demonstrated progress on curriculum-based assessments but have also improved scores on measures such as Oral Reading Fluency.
